Student-Led Conferences & e-Portfolio

Student-Led Conferences & e-Portfolio

Why do them?

  • student accountability / responsibility
  • motivates students
  • students reflect on a deeper level - they know their strengths and weaknesses
  • more self-confident
  • enthusiastic about their work
  • increases parent involvement

My students created their Google Site e-Portfolio site to showcase their work. This e-Portfolio was shared with parents during their student-led conference in the spring. Some sample pages included in their Google Site:

  • ELA Data & Goals
    • Study Island benchmark data
    • DRA data
  • Math Data & Goals
    • Study Island benchmark data
    • Classroom assessments
  • My Work
    • Samples of student work
  • Memories
    • Organized by month
  • Reading Resources
    • Students write their ELA vocabulary with definitions
  • Research
    • Genius Hour projects

Tips:
  • schedule regular work time
  • encourage student leaders
  • use software that allows students to access their site at school and home (I have used Google Sites)
  • if possible, provide student samples
  • have students practice with each other before conference day

Guidelines:

  • work selected by students, teacher, and both students and teacher decides together
  • provide an agenda for students on conference day
